🏮 Is The D4D Engine Reliable
Re: D4D Fortuner reliability. i had both a 2010 & 2011 3.0d4d auto and manual 4x4 versions from 2014 to 2017. both bought with close to 200k on the clock. on the manual i was getting around 11km/L and the auto about 9,5km/L i work around 32km from home mostly crappy jhb highway traffic.
If a D4D was regularly serviced they will do 300k without and any issue. Some will say even more. Just sold a Prado 3l D4D with 170k km, no issues. Driving a revo DC 2.8 now. Lovely vehicle but cant comment on the engine yet. Only issues so far I heard of was the auto box electronics, but that was sorted TSA says.
D4D engine makes all the noises described thus far and doesn't miss a beat. I contacted the former owner who said it had been like it from new. With nigh on 220,000 miles under its treads and with a full Toyota history, I'm looking forward to a clattery but hopefully reliable time with 'Clyde!'
I know that others here have experienced power loss with D4D engines and have had various amounts of success dealing with it. Our 04 Previa has been doing it for several years. Usually topping out at 3500 revs and then the engine management light coming on and going into limp mode with a "stepper motor" warning.
The 5-speed automatic in particular is smooth and doesn’t feel as lethargic as some of the other automatic SUVs in the same price bracket. In fact, the unit in the Fortuner is possibly the best
Top speed: 180 kph. 0-100 kph: 12.5 sec. Summary: The 11th-generation Toyota Corolla's styling has been brought in line with the rest of its products. There are some mild under-the-skin changes in terms of ride and refinement, and the Corolla feels even more solid and refined than before. The 1.4-litre turbodiesel offers perky performance and
Toyota 2KD-FTV Engine (2.5 D-4D) Engine Problems and Reliability. The 2KD diesel engine can hardly be called extremely dependable. The list of problems extremely comparable to the 1KD has. Till 2011, there was an issue with piston splitting. The piston oil rings are prone to stick and after that cause high oil intake.
2.0 D4D D-Cat 124bhp 2wd or 4wd Manual transmission called 1AD-FTV. 2.2 D4D D-cat 148bhp Manual transmission called 2AD-FTV. 2.2 D4D D-Cat 148bhp Auto tranmission called 2AD-FHV. On the current Rav4 Toyota have stopped using the D-cat name as all the engines use this technology so there is no need to differentiate.
I have read about testing the scv's electronically, and a couple of members have said that they have tested OK, but carried on and replaced them and solved the problem of intermittent power loss. I am OK with mechanical problems, but electrics have me baffled. I got the impression that the d4d engine has an achilles heel, being the scv's.
Mated exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, its 206 N.m (available at 1 800 r/min) is still 32 N.m more than the now top-of-the-range 1,8-litre petrol option delivers. Use the lightweight clutch and precise gearshift to efficiently keep the rev needle hovering between the 2 000 and 4 000 r/min marks and the engine goes about its
Toyota Year: 2016. Location: West Midlands. Posted October 9, 2017. The Toyota diesels in the Rav4 had possible head gasket/oil consumption issues on engines built up to Dec 2008, but have been relatively trouble free since. Any diesel can have dpf issues dependent on driving history, etc. Quote.
I know to my great cost (£1,500) that the Renault Clio engine is great until it goes wrong. On researching I found that small engined common-rail diesels are typically not as reliable as the old diesels, being under much greater stresses, which they most likely will sometime after 80,000 miles, even if properly serviced.
