It does not seem clear as to whether he himself wore it, but I would imagine that he did (in the events following ACI, he seems to indicate through the codex pages that he became a leader of the Assassins at Masayaf, which leads one to imagine that Altair saw more AssassinsCreed II Interactive Map - All Collectibles, Feathers, Side Quests, Hidden Treasures, Codex Pages & more! Use the progress tracker to get 100%! Accordingto the game's manual, not having the ability to swim in Assassin's Creed 1 was a 'bug in the Animus' preventing people from doing so, not Altair's inability.
